Rooted in Community. Driven by Progress.

Besao Multipurpose Cooperative (BMPC) was founded on April 7, 1969 by a group of Episcopalian Church leaders as the Besao Credit Cooperative Union (BCCU), formally registered later that year with just 25 members and an initial capital of ₱50. What began as a small, faith-driven initiative operating from a shared space in Saint James High School has grown through decades of perseverance, reform, and collective commitment into a trusted, member-owned institution serving the people of Besao.

Guided by the evolving needs of its members, the cooperative expanded beyond credit services and was restructured into a multipurpose cooperative in 1991. Its journey has not been without challenges—from operational setbacks and near closure in the early 1980s to periods of financial strain in the early 2000s. Yet through decisive leadership, member solidarity, and strategic reforms, BMPC steadily recovered and grew—introducing essential services such as the Mortuary Aid Plan, expanding livelihood programs, and strengthening its financial foundation.

Over the years, BMPC has transformed into a key driver of local development—establishing its own building, expanding services across sectors, supporting agriculture and community enterprises, and extending its reach through initiatives like its Baguio satellite office.

Today, it stands as a resilient, bank-like cooperative and a symbol of shared progress—continuing to empower members, strengthen livelihoods, and build a sustainable future for the community it serves.
